Assessment and Reporting

Our Early Years Foundation Stage includes Nursery provision. We offer 30 hours of provision alongside the Reception class: 8.45 – 11.45, 11.45 – 2.45, with the option of staying for the final half hour until 3.15 for a small cost. Our teacher Miss Stewart is a supported by teaching assistant Mrs McCormick.

For further information, or to apply for a place in Nursery, please contact the school or refer the Cumbria County Council’s School Admissions Section ‘Applying for a Nursery Place’. In the event of our Nursery being over-subscribed, our usual Admissions Policy applies.

The school day begins at 8:50am each day with registration. Children can be dropped off from 8.45am each day either to the classroom door (EYFS and KS1) or left on the playground (KS2) where there will a member of staff supervising. There is a morning break from 10.30 – 10.45 for Nursery/Reception and KS1 and 11am until 11.15am for KS2. Lunchtime is between 12:15pm and 1:15pm. There is an afternoon break for Nursery/Reception and KS1 from 2:30pm—2:45pm.

The school day finishes at 3:20pm. Parents are asked to wait in the front playground and teachers will direct children to the adult who is collecting them.

For our children in Nursery we offer a flexible approach to provision where parents can select the hours they wish their child to attend. Please contact us to discuss the options available.

Statutory assessments are completed at the beginning of the children’s reception year, the end of Year 2 and the end of Year 6. The statutory Phonics screening test is also completed during Year 1 and the Multiplication Test is completed during Year 4.

Assessment and feedback play an important part of children’s learning. It supports teachers in making a judgment of children’s progress towards the knowledge and skills of the curriculum as well as support learning to ensure all children make good progress.

Written reports are sent to parents once a year and consultation evenings are arranged three times a year to discuss the progress children are making within their academic and personal development.
