Computing

Intent

At Beetham School, our Computing curriculum provides all children with a high-quality education in Computing, which enables them to access an ever changing and growing digital world.

We provide children with the ability to improve their knowledge, skills and understanding, by following the NCCE scheme of work and Project Evolve Online Safety. An emphasis on safety is always central to our teaching.

Implementation

The NCCE scheme of work is built around an innovative progression where computing content has been organised into interconnected networks. It is created by experts, using the latest pedagogical research and teacher feedback with resources that can be further adapted to individual learners’ needs. The vision of the NCCE is to provide every child in England with a world-leading computing education.

Timetabled lessons each week focus on this scheme of work, as well as Computing being used as an additional tool within our lessons to help children become creative thinkers and access learning in a variety of ways. Online safety is taught throughout each unit as well as when issues arise.

The children in Early Years provision will also be exposed to the understanding of online safety as they explore the world around them and how technology is an everyday part of their learning and understanding of the world.

Impact

  • Children will have developed the knowledge, skills and understanding to help them access and use a range of technology.
  • Children will know how to use technology responsibly and how to stay safe online.
  • Children’s skills will have progressed to enable them to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum.
  • A love for the subject.
